John has succeeded at every level of the game in which he has competed.
As an amateur he won three national titles culminating in playing for Great Britain and Ireland in the 2007 Walker Cup at Royal County Down, he turned professional soon after. Following a great campaign on the Challenge Tour in 2009, which included a victory in Toulouse, he gained his playing privileges on the European Tour.
The great promise and talent that John displayed as an amateur came to the fore in his rookie season, when at the age of just 23, he won the Vivendi Cup in France – he was now a winner on the European Tour.
Leading by one stroke going into the final round John displayed the composure of a tour veteran as he held off a spirited challenge from a number of opponents to secure a two-stroke victory. Fittingly, he was named European Tour Player of the Month in September.
With his win John joined three of his 2007 Walker Cup teammates – Northern Ireland’s Rory McIlroy, Welshman Rhys Davies and Englishman David Horsey as victors on tour. It was this victory that ensured he enjoyed an exciting final two months of the season.
He followed his victory in France with an equally impressive performance in the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship in Scotland, finishing third in a world class field and securing his place in the Race to Dubai end of season tournament.
